The fiery sun
The sun is a huge mass of gas made up of hydrogen and
helium. Though a star, it is 113 time digger than the earth. The sun has about
330,000 times the mass of the earth. The sun gives off its light and heat in
all directions. Only tiny fractions of its rays reach the earth. But these tiny
fractions of rays are sufficient to provide energy to all living beings on the
earth. Some of the rays are quite harmful, but the magnetic field covering the
earth protects us by not letting these rays, to enter our planet.
Inside the sun
The energy
produced inside the core of the Sun takes approximately 10 million years to
come to the surface of the Sun, after passing through several layers.
A part from heat
and light, the Sun generates gamma rays, ultraviolet radiation as well as
infrared and radio waves. The temperature at the core of the Sun is over
15,000,000c .
What is
Photosphere and Corona ?
Photosphere is
the outer surface of the Sun. It is a 500 kilometre thick layer of gas.
The heat inside
the sun generally erupts on the surface in patches at frequent intervals known
as granules. The corona is the outer atmosphere of the Sun. We can view corona
during total solar eclipse. The temperature of corona is 500,000c corona sends
out a stream of particles known as solar wind at solar wind at frequent
intervals.
